i would suggest the CLAY HOTEL which is located on washington ave/ espanola way only two blocks from the beach. i've stayed there three times already and always had a great time. my room was always clean and simply a good choice. if you don't want action all night long then ask for a room that is not facing washington ave- the public buses can be really annoying.

If I were you, I'd stay in Miami Beach(cheaper & a straight shot down to South Beach)...maybe the Seville Hotel & hop in a taxi down to the clubs in South Beach (may as well because parking rates aren't cheap for rental cars in South Beach). The names of the clubs change so often, but you can check www.partyspree.com if you're into hip hop & reggae.
